Perhaps they have lost people close to them and have realised that you are family and want to be a part of it.

In my more cynical moments I'd say, Was there money or some material benefit involved? Being kinder and slightly less cynical, has there been a death (loneliness) or real old age? Or maybe they just wanted to make contact again.

Maybe they just want to make things right.

I would give them a chance and see what happens.

I would think that there is a hidden agenda.

Probably feeling nostalgic, I called on some one I knew long ago because I heard they were ill. I felt the relatives did not like it. So I just had to let it go.

definitely an agenda
had an uncle like that... showed up at mom's funeral... all he wanted was to go through her stuff. we never did let him into the house, put him up in a hotel. poop on him, he abused his sister when she was young and we had no patience for him period.

Only time will tell if they've changed. Give them the benefit of the doubt & see what happens.

I would play it by ear... listen to his heart AND his possible "agenda"

yes, perhaps something has happened to him or around him to make him
stop and think about what really matters in life.
