An allied front is crucial, but I agree with you, the lack of leadership (mainly its visibility) is probably not a good strategic move on our (U.S.) part, especially since this could go beyond what is happening in Libya.  Both Chicago Tribune and Fox News had opposing editorial pieces on this, which I am about to read, but my inclination is to be guarded for now.  I'm suspecting your arm is out of service for the time being?  Here's to your quick healing, Naut!

What a disconcerting post!  And, I don't like feeling that way.  Probably it's just because I'm getting old.  Actually, I'm glad that Mom & Dad aren't here to see what we have come to.

Nautikos
Well as far as I'm concerned the U.S.A. is still leader of the free world, thank God.

I am so sorry you're hurting. I personally think USA and Canada should bring all our military home lock our shores and begin to build and protect our own countries. Is that just too provincial of me. I am not happy with our young men/women in every war on earth!

I feel that we are too late as well. Here's to hoping for the best, but I am very concerned.

Yes - a book, Naut. A good time to start is NOW, if you haven't already begun. I'M truly beginning to believe that 2012 will live up to the rumours, and life as we know it WILL have changed.

I am one of the Americans who is happy we are not at the forefront! We get dragged in and then kicked around when we help! We have taken it on the chin over and over and I just want our country to be left alone! I know I am dreaming but I want the hell out of the business of war! But then I have a son headed for conflict so I am not as open as I once was; it makes a difference when a son could lose his life for situation as is Afghanistan that does not appear to be winnable! I have been through the Viet Nam conflict  with an ex who fought and losing dear friends and a brother-in-law after the fact due to Agent Orange and I just want to throw in the towel and let someone else do it! I get one more phone call from my son before he leaves and I am anxious for it could be a month or more before I talk to him and that's never happened! UGH on all the shit that is going on!
