I find it difficult to understand parents like that one, she misses out on all the joys and retains only the work. I suspect it does a great deal of harm to her daughter's self confidence too

Congratulations to Claire! And the mother is just being a tad selfish for me! I would find the money to see my child perform! The time goes by too quickly to miss important events! sam

I agree that it is priceless to watch our children so earnest in their performances do their part in a show - not everyone is gifted and talented.

My two pounds worth. I tend to agree with Pat B
(on this and many things). Many mothers would not bring their children at all. She does that at least.
I love watching my daughter's dance performances and I like watching my son do his thing. But I have also been in the situation where my finances were at breaking point, where you just had enough to get the child to the event, or where you used part of the only money you had for food that week to buy a birthday gift so your child could go to their friend's party, and where when the other mothers go for coffee you make some excuse of something else you need to do.
I don't what it says about me but sometimes I don't want the day/weekend to be swallowed up by the children's activities. Or I'll sit at at the match and be reading through a manuscript. I just think we have to be careful about judging for we only know the story about others and their reasoning that we tell ourselves. Two pounds spent.

How terribly sad for her daughters!(and one day, it will be for her as well). She simply can't comprehend what she's missing out on. If they were my children, no matter my financial situation, I would happily have paid double the two pounds to watch them.
Congratulations to Claire from me.

A job to know Malcolm perhaps you could tell by her attitude but it seems to me a bit of a dismal way to spend her time, sad though whatever the reason

I don't know that mother's situation, but I know how it was
when my single mother had to stretch every dollar just to keep clothes on our backs and food in our bellies. Everything not necessary for survival was out. Ballet lessons may well be taking every spare penny. Perhaps that mother can't afford the performance and the attitude is a cover.
