It's amazing how much things have changed in such a short period of time. In my twenty-five years I am surprised at how much has changed during my lifetime...I do feel that our society is worse off.

You are so right on the big companies forcing the closing of the mom and pop operations as it were! When my ex and I had a natural food store the grocery store in our town started selling similar products, they could buy higher volume and sell at a cheaper price! And, it wasn't long before they drove us out of business. Make me sick the way they carried on! And the unemployment numbers have always been misconstrued in opinion for they only count those that are getting benefits, there are many more who have exhausted their benefits and are not working nor counted! I think the unemployment numbers are far greater than what is accepted as reported! Great thoughts throughout this post, too! sam

You are right on with this as we both know. Since I am no longer taking unemployment benefits, I am no longer counted on the unemployment rolls. I call this class that I know find myself in as the Overlooked Americans, for our numbers are counted nowhere and mean nothing and we account for 5% to 9% of the country. The real unemployment numbers in this country are somewhere between 15 and 19 percent...not 9 point whatever.
