I loved reading this, but I can't imagine you being left out of a party, so I assume it is fiction fun. I hope it's fiction about Borders Stores closing.

Damn! Something similar happened to me once and, because she was such a good friend (I thought), it took me much longer to get over it. I couldn't figure out if I was more insulted, or more hurt. If it's any consolation, I love how you took us to the book store; it was a nice treat. Terrific way with words you have - I felt I was sitting with you at that table. But my drink was expresso...and my book was
The Dark Side...

Like characters in a story
There is always one to make sure the one who wasn't invited finds out they weren't invited. Sometimes a fumbled attempt to make unhappiness go away, and not actually meant as mischief.
I don't know the whole of this particular story, but I hope the real life version works out quickly and happily.

Gee, too bad...June probably misinterpreted something you said, and now she's bearing a grudge...But come spring she'll probably turn up again, and I do hope you'll keep us informed about the two J's - as you know, I have a soft spot for them...
