The guy drinks because he wants to. End of story. You are not the reason. he is quite simply a drunk acting like a drunk. Get some cop or big guy to 'talk' to him and I guarantee he will be so scared he won't bother you again. As an alcoholic sober for over 40 years, I know what this guy is like inside himself right now. Life is hard enough for you and get some help over that guy.

Wow!  I don't know what to say to all of that.
I was in an apartment once that in the middle of the night someone yelled fire and pounded on the door.  Black smoke was everywhere and I had to hold my breath while I pulled on my jeans and shoes, and had to feel my way down the stairs.  I didn't stop to take anything at all, not even my purse.  Standing outside watching the firemen going in and out the apartment next to ours, I realized that my pants felt funny and when I checked, I had them on backwards.  There was no fire that came into our place, but for a long, long time everything smelled smokey.  The silly neighbors had gone to bed with a pan of grease still cooking and it burst into flame and set their kitchen on fire.
