What's really scary is this is a pattern that extends across
the country. Respect for education was strong among my classmates -- the majority (75% if I remember right) went to college straight out of high school. Some of the guys went straight to the service -- Korean War era -- and later to college. They became businessmen, owned farms, girls had careers, ran family businesses. Four or five of the girls became educators. At the start of senior year, Mary Alice was given special permission to transfer in to MHS even though she was married. At graduation she opened her black gown to reveal a maternity dress for the first time -- she was six months along and we had all kept her secret from the teachers and principal. Or so we thought.

Thank you for posting this..it is a sad issue that these children are not educated enough to go to the next level of education.
