- Go to Jag, My Doggie, Part XLI

Naut, Now, you know I know that dogs know words and well, I think they whisper to us --- or have that mind thing going on. I find it all so interesting and yes, entertaining. Now, your JAG seems to be quite well trained, rather polite. I bring out harnesses and leashes and it's barreling out the door --- with me in tow usually. and I've yet had one let me have the 'go ahead' --- Hmmm - come to think of it, I'm not good at getting a horse to obey either. But, oh I love my doggies. Elyse

I think that dogs are very capable of performing at a high level, too! Their understanding and comprehension is remarkable! I just recalled an incident where my kids' dog could fish! He would go in the creek and pull a salmon out! He sort of learned this technique as it were from my sons who loved to spear fish, it was illegal but they did it on our property! They ate what they caught! The Department of Natural Resources officers knew they were doing it but never caught them in the act nor found their spears! Their mother did not as well or I would have destroyed them, too! And, we had a friend who would not believe the dog could do it! One day he came by with his camera and the boys took him to the creek to show him the dog could catch fish! Amazingly he was able to catch him in the act; the dog that is, lol! I have to dig those photos out and put it on my humor blog! So, they are marvelous animals! Shelly

Ï Spend as much time as the schedule of a person permits. Take the dog with the floppy ears in the supermarket parking lot car yesterday. The dog knew how to bark Naut. BC-A, Bill’s R®st

Thanks for the mention, Naut....I don't have a dog, but I do have a cat who understands "no" better than either of my kids did when they were toddlers! Mal

BTW, so far, you're absolutely right about the prof who trained
his canine friend to understand a thousand words. Jag no doubt was born to serve in the diplomatic service, neutral as he remains to the issues of the middle east.

The thing is,
not that they understand spoken words so much as they "read" by your tone what you're thinking and feeling. Plus, which our body language is usually so open and available even if it belies what is being said, that doggies, kitties and little bitty kids know before we do what we're going to do/say.
