The one who lives to tell the tale expect Kabu, not that anyone seems to benefit much.

Well Justi one probably notes these things but when one is scrambling to earn a living there is just not time to think, but as you know those times are lost forever.

You turned a difficult memory into a beautiful thing.  I almost hate to use the word, CC. but you're becoming evocative.

I love this. It is so familiar in how we remember the things of childhood, there were no televisions to take away the nuances from life because we were steady not fast moving to finish so we could get back to the tv or computer they didn't exist.

Wonderful memories to share CC - your boyhood sounds interesting, perhaps you can write a book.

You describe the boyhood so eloquently in so few words. A lot of interesting things occurred.

Very memorable treat to share with us your experiences in life and to remember that polished stove once functional and now a rust accumulator of long ago memories. Blessings Femia

"a loved one blown swiftly into the arms of angels".....
a very poignant poem, C.C., with this line's imagery staggering...I had an uncle in the war who was tailgunner in a Lancaster that never came back..I thought of him as I read this.....

Arghhhhhhhh!!! Our cat is forever sprawling on my crocheted blanket on the back of my chair. Well done old chap.

Stunning imagery and one doesn't get the gist of its poignancy until the end when all appears to have gone full circle! Nice work on this on CC! I liked how you moved your reader from the comments! Be proud, this is a great effort! sam

Powerful and transporting, CC!
Reads to me like a story from World War 2.

This is wonderful.  All the way through it, I was reminded of memories of my own so similar to yours even though we be half a world apart.
