I am not familiar with the aging process of pets, therefore I cannot say for certain what is going on with your dog...Such a cute picture of the two.

How sad Lustor that they cannot speak what's in their mind..I mean especially when they are sick. I had a cousin who deteriorated really fast after he was diagnosed with dementia, it is a horrid disease.

Re: I've heard of pets having cancer
no not as yet

not necessarily...

my aunt had a dog around the same age as your pit, maybe a year younger.  they got her fur trimmed back and for some reason that made her start acting like a puppy again.  any kind of small change can change a dog's behaviour...

but at your dog's age you will start to worry more which is natural.  i have 3 chihuahua crosses all from the same litter so one day i know i will end up devastated...they become family.

I hate the short life span of our animals.

I've heard of pets having cancer
so maybe they can have this too?  Have you taken him to the vet?

I am no vet but I think she has at least one form of this disease

Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome (or CDS) is a degeneration of the brain and the nervous system in dogs, roughly comparable to Alzheimer’s disease in people....An ongoing study performed at the University of California-Berkeley has shown that 62% of dogs between ages 11 and 16 demonstrate one or more signs of CDS, and the percentage goes up as dogs get older.

I have heard of this happening a lot if they don't spend as much time
with you as they used to. It could be that something has happened in older age but I have also heard that when people have become very very busy their pets act out if they want some extra time with you playing with them like the old days. They remember and seek attention however they can like children or teenagers do to get attention. They are lost on what to do to get you to play with them again. You could always try and give him some new toys the ones that have holes in that you stick food in for them to try and get out are recommended for boredom by the PDSA. They recommend things like this to aleviate mental boredom. As we get older it is recommended we do brain games - games that keep our mind sharp so that it doesn't slip. I do these games myself even though I am 44. Dementia is a sad thing.
