Naut, I love the way you put the two murders side by side, to mirror each
other, but you left out the similarities between them, which were few, but still there. The Ultra left used the arizona killings as an opportunity to further their agenda and silence their opposition. Pakistanian political forces did the same.
two disturbing things in the comments 1. the silent muslim community, which should clarify the position of the silent majority of the peaceful religion that holds murder as a honorable. another very disturbing comment was from gapcohen's comparison, which is one of the most horrid things I have ever read by a jew turning against jews, what a twisted mind it is.

I did read this the other day and went away without commenting because I could think of nothing to say that would help the situation. I must be getting old. Used to, I always had an opinion and I would voice it whether asked or not. I have either mellowed or given up I guess.

I wish I could intelligently comment on this today but I am not in an overly clear mind right now. Just too much senseless loss.

The assassination and aftermath in Paki don't surprise me; these are the same people, I assume, who celebrated the deaths of Americans on 9-11. Though there will always be an extremist faction in every religion who rejoice the death of a moderate messenger with the wrong message. I know there are some Jews who believe that the ultra-right-wing nut who killed Yithak Rabin 15 years ago was a hero. The difference, though, was that the assassin was roundly denounced, arrested, and even the ultra-religious were forced to do some "soul-searching." Jews don't celebrate death - even an enemy's death (harking back to the Old Testament when Egyptians were drowning in the Red Sea and Miriam was not allowed to dance and sing and take pleasure in the destruction of lives).

Looks like vitriol is not limited to America... it's a world-wide failing.

God is indeed great but in my humble opinion God created ever living being in His image; to have them slain as a edict of a sort from 'Ol' Mo' as you say, is nothing but man in his own derision! To slay the works of the Lord is a sadness for Him! These folks who are caught up in the one world, one religion will not succeed nor will they attain the eternal life they believe they are going to get! In my way of understanding it is about peace for all men and we should serve only one god, but we must be allowed the opportunity to do it in our own way, not by dictate! I fear this will get worse before it gets better but the true believer will prevail in the end, he will not be disregarded by the Lord! It is a horrible tragedy that occurred in Arizona, people will become more and more fearful of attending public events, forevermore at a grocery store; it makes me wonder what could be next! The times are so explosive with people acting on impulses; it makes me fear for my son who is headed into Afghanistan and will be deployed near the border of Pakistan! We are in a fierce battle and for the life of me I wonder if success is possible, after ten years and very little progress I doubt we will ever get out of that region; if we were to leave it would begin anew in my humble opinion! Also, the dictate for me is from long ago and we are on a collision course for the complete obliteration of the earth with these factions seeking world dominance! I doubt I will be around to see it, but it will be destroyed with the current trend! The fact that an assailant would be glorified in court speaks volumes for a religion that is truly misguided! Even in the Old Testament, when people were given into the hand of others because of their turning away from the Lord, there was no reason for celebration and this blasphemy is only another control factor by a misguided religion for me. The Muslims have their folks believing this is pleasing unto the Lord but it is not; killing will never be pleasing unto the Lord! He wants us to come to Him directly and not through another MAN, as it were in reference to 'Mo'; no man should ever carry more weight than God. Everything in that religion seems to come as a directive through Mo and it won't be sustained! Just got me going a bit here! Shelly

I am interested in the comparison of the mass deaths of a few days ago and the one also of those who serve our country at Ft Hood Texas where 31 were killed by a Muslim doctor in our military. He is hidden away and nobody is addressing his punishment. What gives there? Yes I believe our law is just when one is innocent until proven guilty. What more does any court need than the many witnesses who saw both of these men. They both deserve the death penalty.

I do not qualify as either a liberal or a moderate Muslim but I would say this... I see both those assasinations as acts of insane violence. Both are tragic and sad and such a waste of life... there is no sense to be made... no lesson to be learned from them except maybe that there are, as they have always been, crazy people out there that dwell in a dimension filled with terrors and monsters which most of us can not comprehend. The scary thing is that whereas before they were usually isolated cases... now they seem to be getting together and organizing... that IS frightening. Be well Naut xoxoxo
