Well C.G most of the green gage trees one gets today are pale imitation of the former variety that I expect you Mummy tasted. A few years ago I saw a tree at a garden center and I noticed it was the old variety it was about 50 dollars  or more 10 years ago. It is now a wonderful bushy tree, last year it was so loaded I had to pick hundreds of small plums off it or the branches would have been  broken by the weight. Apart from scoffing them when ripe the majority are frozen they have such an intense flavor that they really need to go with a big pie crust to balance the flavor. I have another tree that looks similar a golden Gage these I usually give away and call them greengages. Well they wouldn't appreciate a fine plum.

Harrods used to do Greengage Jam...
My mother once told me she loved greengages and for years I looked around for some with no success, and then a few years before she died I was looking around London and went to Harrods and found the Jam so I thought well that's as close as I can get... I gave it to her, and she said something like "Fancy you getting me that?" with no memory of her telling me at all ha ha.  I had never heard of them until she had told me about them. :)

Not much of a day right....everything as flat as a balloon with a hole in
it and to top it off....no chemistry felt towards the girl......time to go home, take a hot bath and enjoy a quiet night watching Corination Street on the Telly.
