Have you tried going to your local grocier who sells fresh fruit and ask him if he would be willing to do a regular order for them. He or she would then need to get several suppliers who could find them in different countries throughout the year. If you pledge to buy them and give some money upfront they will usually get you what you want because they want the continuing custom through-out the year.

My mother
used to love dates and figs - they were a Christmas staple for her too!

LOL....I THINK IT IS TOO EARLY FOR FRESH FIGS
AND YES THEY DO WELL IN A MEDITERANEAN CLIMATE. I ONCE LIVED IN A HOUSE THAT HAD A FIG TREE NEXT TO IT SO HUGE SO FULL OF FIGS NO MATTER HOW MANY ONE WOULD EAT THE BIRDS WOULD STILL EAT HEAPSAND HEAPS. AM I ANNOYING YOU YET(as I duck what you just threw lol.)
