Canceling accounts can be such a pain. I hope that everything gets sorted out quickly.

Car insurance payments can be very confusing! I would pull out my policy and read it to determine what is going on! And, I have learned that it takes up to one billing cycle for the payments to be stopped! I wonder if that isn't what happened here more so than the way the payments are handled! I would not quit until I had a full explanation in writing! And, if it turns out they made the error I would ask them to make good on the charges you incurred and also send an explanation to the bank! sam

  I would write them a letter, and say you paid in advance, and state you want that money refunded. Maybe mention you are thinking of going to an ombudsman. It's always best to cancel Direct Debits personally on-line or at the bank or they might do it again...

It sounds as if this is just the beginning of the nightmare even though the damage has already been done. I actually try to limit my auto deductions to zero. It is much easier to clean up if I forget? They call and add the penalty to the balance.
