Tyranny unchallenged is tyranny abetted is all said I think, but Naut most of the issues raised is blatantly ruled out and accepted as a rule of law by the religion pronounced so I do believe the change should come from within.

I am glad you got into the Christmas spirit with my poems..and here's wishing you a Merry Christmas and not forgetting Jag too.

Israel is our only friend in the middle east and the sooner we recognize that and embrace her the better it would be for us.  Israeli women are just like us if not stronger... they even fight side to side with their men.  I am all for equal treatment of men and women... we are all human beings after all... but I never agreed with the feminist premise that men and women were equal... and yes I know this puts me in a not politicly correct minority but I did not agree with them  not because I thought women were less than men, but because  I believe that women  and men are  too different to be compared with each other... It would be like comparing apples and oranges.  I would go farther and say that f one were to compare them , women would surpass men at many things, not the least of which  would be the ability to carry life within them.  The treatment of women in some arab countries is something no decent human being should accept, regardless of his  or her gender, position or nationality. Having said that,   I have friends who are married to muslims, some are muslim themselves and I hate to tell you that in many occasion they have rationalized the mistreatment when I have brought it up,  giving me all kinds of excuses and reasons for why things are the way they are.  For example, the berkas are according to one  are very romantic because the woman is only seen by her man... a "for your eyes only" kind of thing.  I have given up trying to talk to them.   Wow I sure can ramble  loll  sorry Naut ,  this was a very thought provoking post xoxoxoxo

This is a paradox that has been puzzling me for years.  I know some of these lefty "feminists" - it's like talking to a brick wall.....Mal

Naut.......
The deception at the heart of the feminist movement is nowhere more apparent than in the silence with which self-professed feminists and feminist movements ignore the inhumane treatment of women who live under Islamic law.

If feminism weren't a hollow term, then prominent feminists should be the leaders of the anti-jihad movement.

Gloria Steinem and her sisters should be leading to call for the overthrow of the anti-female mullocracy in Iran and the end of gender apartheid in Saudi Arabia.

Leading feminist voices in the US and Europe remain unforgivably silent on the unspeakable oppression of women and girls in Islamic societies. And this cannot simply be attributed to a lack of interest in international affairs. Islamic subjugation and oppression of women happens in Western countries as well. Genital mutilation, forced marriage and other forms of abuse are widespread.

For instance, every year hundreds of Moslem women and girls in Western countries are brutally murdered by their male relatives in so-called "honor killings."

Pamela Geller, blogger at Atlas Shrugs website, has steadfastly documented every case she has found.

This year she ran an ad campaign on public buses and taxis in major US cities to bring public awareness to their plight. And for her singular efforts in championing the right to life of Moslem women and girls, she has been reviled by the Left as an anti-Islamic bigot.

What blatant hypocrisy!

Some of us burned ...not their Bra, but their fighting spirit back in the
seventies and early eighties and then a younger generation of women grew up and they started to relinquish some of the gains made...revert back to marrying a millionaire instead of making one....were content to see child care become way too expensive and scarce ...erosion after erosion.......what is my point.......if we can't keep fighting for equality and freedom of choice in our own country how can we help the truly oppressed. I am just tired.

Sadly

The only time that the rights of the abused or the repressed are really addressed is when it suits their political agenda.  Unfortunately the likes of the Clinton et al... prefer to slam the various human rights atrocities that are happening in those countries because they might look less than politically correct.

I am all for everyone being equal but when such a vast part of the world sees women and often children as less than the camel spider that crawls across the desert to be crushed under their shoes, then we need to rethink our political agenda and create a human agenda.

OK, if I say another word I am going to go off on a rant.  Good stuff Naut.

I've been wondering why Feminism here has not taken on those regimes. Reading the article, I feel the conclusion makes sense.

It seems when folks are not touched by the immediacy of the plight they become mere observers! It has to end but when administrations will not take a deep stance, no one else comes to the plate so to speak and the outs accumulate without a pitch being thrown! Shelly

It seems hopeless, doesn't it Nautikos? This may sound terrible, but I believe the only way one could get women to oppose this with enough strength to actually change things would be to have them all live through it. We read about it, shake our heads and say "That's not right!", then go on with our own little problems in the modern world with our modern families...and it's out of mind...until we read of it again. It's only a small number of people who would really sacrifice their own way of life to better the way of life for another, especially that of a stranger, who may protest anyway because of her religion & beliefs. We'd struggle harder to get out of the mud if our own boots were stuck.
