Tzippy
You're absolutely right. As Polonius said to Laertes 'To thine own self be true'...(in Hamlet)...

The older I get, the easier I find it to just be myself.
Too bad we don't learn that easily when we are young.

Amen! One should focus on being the person they were meant to be and not a vision of another's perception! Well done throughout! I loved how you used stop in the poem, too! sam

New Comment on Be Yourself.

A really good poem. I like it.

But, you need to go to write, then to edit, then on the second paragraph where it says:

'self undamaged by the elf.'

change elf to self or it will give a comical bent to the poem you didn't mean...

I always maintain that we walk around with a bag full of masks.....
on our backs......depending on who you're with determines the mask you pull out and wear.....as you flow through the day each mask is used because we choose to appear differently to those we meet.....a very draining process.

I love these kinds of words because so many people are not being themselves. Wise advice to live by.

Tzippy, those "Steps That Stop" are keepers....

Well worth a copy to keep very handy....

and that is so true about just being yourself...no airs, no masks, no falsities...just be yourself and the results can be pleasantly surprising....

Great advice brilliantly put - I particularly like the second STOP and (of course) the flip side of it which is STOP expecting other people to make you happy when you can do it better yourself
