I lived in the Philippines for almost two years. When the girls would eat balut......ewwwwwwww.  I never got drunk enough to get a tattoo, or to eat balut. (I did do some pretty crazy/stupid things)

I had a nurse friend from the Philippines who loved these things and was sad she could not get them here.  I haven't seen her since I retired, but I never got over the idea of her loving them.  Son who was stationed there in the Navy in the 1980's said that everyone who ate them had terribly bad breath.

Eww...I cannot imagine the stuff people eat these days..and Naut the poem that I wrote was in reference to my brother but you are so right..it is better to have loved than not to have loved at all. I check up Tennyson and his poem "Break, break, break" and all these poets intrigue me. I have never really looked up on poets and so I thank you for the mention.

My Filipina friend confirms it's a delicacy,  but I prefer to have my eggs scrambled .. without the feathers.
