Re: Crazy Mary
Mary was an unfortunate childhood friend of mine that is best put as "being content in being different". Something I have always respected; not admired. She was poor and I would beg, as well as my sister, to have my mother pick her up and give here a ride. We were adolescents. I can't remember her saying much, but I remember where she lived. In an old tar paper shack........one day, the store where she would hang out at, put up a sign saying no loitering....and I remember her hands and shoulder's kind of shrugging with a smile on her face as she wondered off to her shack. Next morning on the way to school we noticed skid marks near her house and found out she had been hit by a car and therefore...."she was flying high above the trees over the hills" with no worries anymore. I think she was an ANGEL myself. A lost soul or maybe not. But, I thought about her and wrote about her. Hope that makes more sense to you.
P.S. Pass a bottle around refers to us sharing a coke with her on the rides...nothing to do with alcohol......I'm guilty of telling a story and leaving important things out....but, I guess one could interpret that as alcohol....
