A cycle, indeed. Just as tyou think you've lost weight because of the
exercise regimen, you realise you're gaining some soon, because of food choices, or stress, or whatever, as you said.

No No darling...keep exercising...remember right now you are turning
er um....flab into muscle....sorry ......and muscle weighs heavy....but then when all that is left is muscle then you will be slim trim tight and terrific, and the exercise will keep you that way ...forever and it doesn't matter having a little food fest now and then coseasy on....easy off if at the end you get back to the diet.
