It's extremely unfortunate when these sorts of situations arise around the holidays. I hope that a resolution will be found.

It is a tough situation but I think I would be in an environment where I was most comfortable! A dirty home is not one that affords one to be celebratory! Best wishes it feels like a catch 22!

I think I have really had enough big Thanksgiving dinners for a lifetime and am just ready for lots of memories over a cup of tea. But, I will never ever have enough of giving thanks. It makes me happy.

that last is my way of saying, "don't feel like the Lone Ranger."
Enjoy your day. I intend to.

I'm not inviting the clan for turkey day. 1) the house is too small
and B) I can't stand the clatter of happy children running up and down the stairs and their momma yelling at them for no apparent reason and her mother (my daughter-in-law) harping at her and the guys (sons and sons-in-law) monopolizing couch and TV with big loud football to drown out the sound of the kids and women caterwauling among themselves. I'm telling you, family get-togethers are when and why I start with the Bushmill's at 9:00 a.m. and keep it handy until the last car pulls out at the end of the day. I plan to go to the buffet restaurant at the shopping mall a couple blocks from here. If anyone wants to come along, they're welcome to meet me there.

Bel...
Life can and does get very complicated @ times. Just do what you would advise me to do if I were in your situation. You know all the details and with your smarts, you will make the right decision in regards to your Thanksgiving.
I do wish you a Happy Thanksgiving.

Hope you find a solution and have a good one!

Thank you so much everyone.
I really just needed to vent and of course, I come here and find all this love and support. I adore you people.
Wiley... you my dear have the best damn idea I have heard all day...OK, next to Carl's who suggested I run away to him and hide under his covers...I'll skip the details on the rest of his suggestions.

I have the solution. Come to Canada, it's not far, and I will cook a turkey for Kabu and you and celebrate your American Thanksgiving.

I am almost as reluctant to give advice in matters of the family as I am when it comes to matters of the heart, where I give none, ever...So I just hope you'll have a pleasant Thanksgiving regardless of the circumstances...

Honey I say protect yourself. Go to your sisters or go along with your brother. You don't have to go to your mother's and go through that, nor do you have to have a big conversation about it with her. It is no, you are not going.
