I think cats feel a little more secure
reaching into small places.  Dogs are not foolish, they know they are too big for most places.  Besides dogs hunt with their nose.  He was hunting!

I've only seen maybe one or two ravens and that when I was a kid
living in the Cascade foothills, not more than 3 miles from wild government free range. There were crows aplenty, and I believe they're intelligent, that they recognize people they see. Also they're terrible gossips, but that's another matter. Dogs and cats seem to be from different planets. I really enjoyed this little anecdote about Jag's ability to psych you into helping recover his treat.

Perhaps Jag "knew" that if he tried to get the treat, he'd push the whole thing back under the fridge.  I once went to a great lecture at Yellowstone National Park called The Raven and The Wolf - how incredibly intelligent they are.  The ravens circle ailing animals, the wolves see where the birds are congregating and take care of the kill, while the ravens "clean up" after the wolves get their share....a symbiotic relationship and both sacred to Native Americans.....Mal

Why do it yourself if you can get somebody else to do it for you? You've got a smart doggie that deserves another cookie.

And you left us hanging! Bud is a paw user, especially with food or rocks. Grump will stand there and wait for his 'servant' to fetch. I think it depends a lot on the animal's character. Looking forward to reading this study....

It's interesting to see how different animals react to different situations and how they solve them.
