By the way, I'm still wondering whom he mourned in the 40's if he died in 1989? meaning who did he find so thought provoking? I'm intriqued yet. Ely

I adore Gerald Manley Hopkins writings and I will research this...I seem to think he wrote in 'private' when he was torn between devout Priesthood and egotism. I wonder if he mourned his great friendship with Digby Dolben - of whom he wrote a couple of poems about ... This was an interesting thought provoking poem. I'm onto study a bit more of Hopkins now. I ponder in secret, too! I've know folks who have simply tossed away their work after many years and I have never understood it! I guess some are not comfortable sharing! sam
