I don't think Israel is going to jeopardize its own position whatever the Obama administration thinks or says or does. I doubt if peace in the Middle East can ever be achieved until all countries involved respect each other's right to exist.

Now that you mention it, that does make a lot of sense. I wonder how high it will if it is at all on his priority list.

Hi, Naut-  I just returned from New Orleans - host city this year for the "G.A." - the Jewish Federation General Assembly.  Both our VP Biden and Prime Minister Netanyahu spoke to a packed (3,000) audience - earlier this week, and of course Biden expressed his administration's FIRM commitment to Israel, to its existence and security.  He's been going to Israel since he was a Jr. senator 37 years ago and considers many upper level pols there his friends.  Not that that counts for much, but there it is.  But more to the point of your post, there is NO WAY that Netanyahu is going to back down and put Israel's security at risk, and based on what he says, Obama can ask him to make concessions till the cows come home, but until the Palestinians come to him as "willing partners in negotiation" he has no interest. The theme of most panels this year was the increasing "delegitimization" of Israel - and true to form during Netanyahu's speech there were several radical lefty Jews who disrupted his talk, screaming about the occupation and settlements - but they were promptly boo'd down before a bunch of security guards "escorted" them out. I have lots to write about, which I plan to do next week.

there is one way that Obama would get elected again, and that is
to come up with a plan to bring peace to the middle east.

He is a tough President to comprehend! I get lost in what he says he is doing and what is really happening! My focus on him is the Afghanistan war, he says one thing but the events show anther thing is occurring! The withdrawal is a huge bone of contention with me! I think he could end up being far more dangerous because of the mixed messages that continue to come out of Washington! Shelly

My grandmama used to say that there are many ways to skin a chicken... I never knew what she meant by that but it seems to apply here in that there are  many ways to stop dear Obama if he threads those waters and I am sure the Israelies, who are masters at survival,  have already consider several of them just in case.  I look forward to read your next installment :-)  xoxoxo

Naut
So often and this is one of those cases; I feel as if we just keep going in circles.  Never really getting where we are going but pretending we are actually on our way.  This whole situation is incredibly distressful and sadly, I don't see it's going to change anytime soon.
