I agree with you totally
in that legalising it isn't giving in to the fact that addiction exists; it's accepting it exists rather than being in denial. It isn't at all the same as giving up because I'm sure the fight goes on in California as everywhere else. Surely it is better to raise tax income which could then, in a curious kind of way, be used for the most vulnerable in society - including those whose neighbourhoods have been so badly afffected by drug availability and drug crime. It might also release the police to focus their efforts on organised drug crime rather than processing individuals' recreactional use. I don't get drugs either and neither, thankfully, do our children. If a drug user wants to progress through the soft to hard drugs as scientists tell us they do, then that is their decision but they should make some of the payments and not just expect the rest of us to.
