Hemmm..I'd like to know: which came first: the chicken or the egg? The fence or the jumpers (or lack thereof)?

This puts a whole new meaning on ...Just dropped in.....
Never going to retire the Broom....keep living in fear, and another thing...there is a rumour that Butt Bird is coming back to destroy your house again....Just a warning...and it is only a rumour.

That's a great question about the timing of the suicide barrier...Intereted to find if your digging reveals anything on this matter.

Neat idea, but I am glad you stopped for Jag. From what you write he is a grand dog. I am not one prone to commit suicide, but I would not walk the bridge without rails. George and I love bridges but I don't care for heights and sometimes that is limiting.

Nautikos

R Suicide issues that have occurred all along might be analogized with the story of the black and white spotted pit bull mix that replaced I guess the late Willy the Vicious Mutt (of biting my heel fame). He barks at me the first time I pass his front yard. It’s fenced. When I walk home he just sits and looks at me with cocker spaniel eyes. The moral of Beauty and the Beast apples to our attitude at the sight of wonders of the visual the feeling of the wonder of the creation of ourselves Naut. BC-A, Bill’s RJLst

It would be interesting to check the records to find out how many, or if, jumpers. Personally, if I was intent on going, I'd choose a gun or something - not the bridge! I'm happy you didn't ignore poor JAG'S feelings and took him back.

I actually knew a person years ago who jumped off a bridge because her husband left her.  She didn't die but she broke both legs and ended in a mental hospital.  I assume by this time she is no longer amongst the living.  It was a long time ago.  But anytime I drive over that bridge, I think of her.

Quite a bridge!
I remember Tower Bridge in London having its pedestrian walkway being closed because of jumpers but I think it's open again now. Hopefully that's a good sign all round.

A suicide barrier also helps prevent the tossing of pumpkins or beer
bottles over. There seems to be a compulsion among young men to throw things off a high point -- especially if there's the promise of a splash far below. I'm sorry Jag didn't enjoy the venture. Good for you to take him back to solid ground and a sense of safety.
