Heart disease runs in my family. It took both my grandparents and both my parents as well as two of my aunts. Smoking is probably the dumbest thing I've ever done.
Even if I hadn't planned on hanging around this time, how could I refuse now? I'll be here with bells on.

Today a co-worker asked me if I still wanted to smoke. I told her every waking hour of every day. Then she lit a cigarette just to spite me. I wanted to string her up by her thumbs.

Smokers are indeed a persecuted minority. It may be even worse than you thought here in the states. I'll write a post explaining exactly why I decided to quit.

I knew I would miss smoking, but
how I missed it shocked me.

The trick was curbing my tongue at home, making sure Queen V didn't carry the brunt of my suddenly charming disposition.

Hi Talion,
Congrats on quitting smoking. The decision to do so will add years to your life. My grandmother was a smoker and passed away in June from COPD and pulmonary fibrosis.
Please stay awhile this time.

And yet, I still feel that way,
despite falling off the no nicotine wagon a couple of months ago. Apparently stupidity knowns no boundaries, and not even Mistress Nicotine can stave off those impulses I have to free up all that oxygen being wasted by the legions of mouth breathers in our midst...

I used to have the same murderous impulses when I encountered
calculated stupidity. Used to think they were deliberately targeting me to see how far they could push before I lost it. Then my doc recommended Prozac, and after a few weeks my tolerance and patience improved. I learned to say "what if you tried it this way..." instead of "you're a freakin' idiot." I was at the time going through withdrawal of another sort: post menopause, post-divorce, a bit of empty nest syndrome, and of course the inevitable idiots.

Free floating anger
So refreshing to read someone else's take on reactions that dogged my days until old age took the edge away. (well, nearly old). I thought I wasn't normal. The only abnormality may have been that I didn't smoke. No wonder they packaged the leaf and pedalled it for so long. I'm sorry the smokers arre now a persecuted minority. What are they going to do to reign in our expressions of our justifiable frustrations now?

LOL isn't amazing how tabacco
makes some situations just a bit more tolerable? So good to see you back here!

Yep! Nicotine withdrawal will do that to you. A simple nuisance becomes a giant pain in the butt!
