You are one of the good guys dsm you care, I wish I had received schooling from someone like you. The main objective of our male teachers seemed to be who could hit a boy with a piece of chalk, well one did have a toy cannon on his desk that was quite accurate. Going back in time my mother told me that the headmaster in the village school pinched the girls arms as he did to her on occasions not much fun when you had just lost your dad in the war and was hungry. Sorry to be a misery. No reflection on you of course, it has always been the same with people in power.

I commend you! And I recognize that what you're doing there requires degrees of patience that I simply couldn't muster, which is why I couldn't teach high school, let alone public school. At the universities were I have taught, the attitude is generally 'sink or swim.'
That's not to say that one doesn't try to teach well, but you certainly don't adjust your level to the lowest common denominator, at least I didn't, and I didn't see it as my task to remedy the results of almost two decades of parental incompetence, poor schooling and a general indifference to learning...
