I have to wonder

How does one really function in a country where a HUGE percentage of the population speaks another language.  A good friend of mine who is a first generation American as her parents came here from Spain just before she was born is one of the loudest advocates I have ever met for this issue.

As she said:  Nobody made exceptions for her parents.  They came here, learned the language, got jobs, raised their children to be bi-lingual but required their children to speak only English outside of family get togethers.  Why?  Because they made the choice to live here.

It'll be interesting to see how other nations in the form of their society and politicians respond.

I believe that France and England will second this in a minute. Muslims, no matter what anybody says have an adgenda to take over the world. Radical, peaceful or whatever in between are born, not taken up their faith which is a faith of death. They have stated that the problem with the west is that we fight to live and they fight to kill. Look all over the world they have taken over as much as possible an inch at a time.

I READ SIMONE'S COMMENT AND I WOULD LIKE TO GIVE HER A HUG

BUT YES, SIMONE COMING FROM GERMANY IT GRATED ACROSSMY HEART TOO....BUT I BELIEVE THAT WAS ANOTHER TIME...PLEASE GOD IT WAS ANOTHER TIME.

JUST A QUESTION

Why is multiculturalism considered a failure?  And if it is, maybe it's because people don't look at others as people, individual people, and just think of each other as groups or CULTURES!  I for one am glad to know people of all cultures and don't really care what that culture may be.  As long as the individul is nice to me, than I am nice to them and will respect whatever their culture is as long as it does not promote hatred.

It is up to us to make these things work.  And if we don't we are all to blame.

Naut, did you happen to see some of the highlights of her speech?
She was as emphatic as she could possibly be, almost leaning right out of the podium, gesturing, on the verge of shouting...- man, we could use a P.M. like her!

I think it is important to point out the shortcomings, especially with language as it is in the States with the Spanish language! Shelly   BTW, I was just messing with imagery, I am doing well. I was over to my oldest son's home tonight and we were talking of the dangerous job he and his brother have taken on. I said I thought I have had more than a mother's share from the two: it includes, five trips to sea for commercial fishing between them, one trip to Karluk, Alaska, in watch of bears at every turn, and Afghanistan. I thought I would never get through their teens with their daring challenges, either. Have a great day and thanks for listening to my rambling!

It had to be said regardless of the history of Germany, she is very brave.

I know what she said its the truth,  but it somehow makes me nervous to hear a German saying that multiculturalism has  failed... for what is the alternative in her mind?  Their ( the German's)  idea of a "uniculture"  in the past has lead to horrible consequences... so, is it "courage" this time what she has excibited in pointing out a problem that does exist or is it vestiges of her  past ... I would just feel better if it would have been a Canadian politician or even a French one... I know its my hang up but I can't help it :-)  xoxoxo
