Re: CORNCRAKE
I think the gopher's a bit more cunning than the old hedgehog Wiley The gipsies used to bake it in clay supposed to be like pork. Viz hedge pig.

CORNCRAKE
I think it's kinda like a gopher here but the gopher would have eaten the rose by now. Nice work my friend.

Re: it could be worse for him...he could be a skunk....I like skunk
Sadly E.E. it's always sadly the poor baby ones seem to be covered in those nasty bugs which are a job to remove and very often near the eyes. I would spray them. I shall have to try something as they cannot be physically removed. The same bugs get on cats and dogs sometimes but always it seems near  a place where the poor animal cannot reach.  Have you ever seen one on your doggies.

I adore hedgehogs...yes, some children across the alley where I lived once, they had one.  How utterly fascinating and adorably sweet the little animal was.  And the quill like rather coarse pelt doesn't feel prickly when they are curled up ~ sorta vulnerable? maybe?  At any rate, this is a very thought provoking poem - another good - great write of yours, CC - very aware and considerate of humanity and how we approach...we in fact I guess learn from 'test' as you say.  I liked the words, "ilk and pally" ~ I looked them up.   EE ~
