Bel, you can do it...
as you've already hit on, a novel is just a series of short stories (depending on plot twists) threading together under some common theme...just do it and I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised..

LOL, they were the only ones that came to mind, well besides my favorite writer, Janet Evanovich, but I couldn't remember how to spell her name! haha
It's good to stick with what you are happy with but don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. You might be surprised.

LOL oh course you would pick writer's that are just a "bit" demented as examples for me?
I know you are right, I am just wondering if it's really the right venue for me or if I should just be happy with the skills I have and stick with them.

How about taking that story idea and making it short story?
just an idea. Also, I should be taking my own advice here (which I never do) lol, but every first draft of story is going to be a piece of crap! You just gotta work with it. I'm sure Dean Koontz, and Stephen king, had crappy beginnings
