What an awful experience for her. I once did that - hit a cat that streaked out in front of me. I went back to look for it, but never saw it again and have no idea what happened to it. Affected me for quite a time, though. Your daughter has my sympathy.

I hit a cat once and it flew off the road. I never did find it and it toke days for me to get past that.

I think someone must definitely have picked them up soon afterwards
or they would have been lying, stunned, by the roadside somewhere. Hard as it may sound I think she did absolutely the right thing by not pulling up sharply and being hit by cars behind. I was taught this at an early age when my father ran over a rabbit.
