Anyone reading my blog has seen my mention of Kilroy. He's an 86 year old friend whose brother was in the army, and it's his pen-name for his blog. I can remember reading up on the name, and seeing the cartoon. It suits him to a 'T', LOL!

The story I heard was there was a ship inspector by the name of Kilroy who inspected ships being built in a Mass. shipyard. His approval for a welding job or whatever was that; "Kilroy was here" in chalk. Some soldier cartoonist picked up on that and voila, it wound up everywhere, even the Eiffel Tower. A great post luv

Re: there never was one. Naut, you're right -- it wasn't featuring Kilroy,
but there was a Kilroy drawing somewhere in most of the strips -- like a tag line, or that little graphic of Puck, with his "What fools we mortals be," statement at the top of the comics section.

Your question prompted me to do a little digging, and the good news is that you didn't forget the comic strip that featured Kilroy, 'cause there never was one. The origins of this guy are lost in the heady days of WWII, or even before, but he was widely popular with the soldiers...

Beetle Baily
