Re: time flies
Let's form a support group.  When I retired, my mother-in-law said, "How fine.  Now you have more time for Ginny"  Ginny is her daughter, my paralyzed wife, whom I was already helping all the time - commode, dressing, showers, the whole nine yards.  If she needs to use the bathroom when we're out, I go into the ladies' room to help her.  Then last year I got pancreatic cancer - and beat it! - but I'm not much good at lifting any more.  But, really I'm not complaining (much), just "sharing" with a fellow giver.  Fact is, I spent most of yesterday doing something old-fashioned and very satisfying - dropping in for visits.  One was a woman who'd lost a beloved 9-year old grandson to cancer and the other was a peppy 92-year old woman who gets dialysis (sp?) 3 times a week,  But - and this is important - neither person was a downer; we got around to normal conversation pretty quick and I enjoyed the visits.  You sound like the kind of person who will know what I mean when I say that the act of reaching out to them invigorated me as well!  And I know you also understand that the joys of being compassionate definitely have their limits before you have to start lookng out for yourself and not answering the phone.  More power to you!  Your kind are rare and valuable - and can burn out fast if not careful. God bless you.
