I haven't read the story, but I'm pretty sure that the deed wasn't done by someone who just sort of snuck in off the street - that's very unlikely. In order to know what to stick where to good effect you need to have all kinds of specific information beforehand, which means that this was an 'inside job', done by someone who's in the 'loop' and is still there, in all likelihood.
Hell, he may may even have been red-flagged, which doesn't have many consequences these days - remember the guy who committed the Ford Hood massacre?
Anyway, it's not the guys sitting in some cave in Afghanistan that scare me - it's the types who have infiltrated our own military and other institutions; and there's not a thing we can do...

It is all beyond me. What a time to be living! It's like living in some kind of science fiction spy novel in Alice's Wonderland.

It does sound a bit like the millennium bug when the world would stop cos
computer dates wouldn't turn over to 2000 and planes would fall out of the sky etc. A lot of people partied that new years eve in Sydney....including me....but a lot stayed close to computers too. But this would write into a fantastic sequel to your book.
