How in the world do you deal with that?

Re: I know, Mal. It's horrible.
I hear ya, Spit.  My husband is not only "gluten-free" but he's dairy and egg free as well.  I always tell our friend that he can eat 5 foods....Mal

Ditto, Wiley-Pops!!
and thanks!

I get what you're saying, LadybugJ, but
they also buy crappy foods with food stamps. I see it all the time. Chips, cookies, pizza, etc. Not to say that only people on food stamps do that, I was just making an observation. I have used WIC before and every time I went to the office, I see "poor people" and all their kids wearing designer clothes and professionally manicured hair and nails.

I know, Mal. It's horrible.
My husband has Celiac disease so he is allergic to gluten and wheat, meaning we have to cook everything from scratch and shop at the health food stores for certain foods. It is REALLY expensive.

That Just Don’t Make Sense to Me.
What gapcohen..has to say it the truth of why there are so many obese people. They just can't afford to eat the non fattening type of foods.

poverty = obesity.  Did you ever notice that the worst, most fattening foods are on the dollar menu at McDonalds or Burger King?  If you only have a few dollars a day to eat, and a double cheeseburger costs a buck - you do the math. Salad is so much more expensive....Mal

The American way is SUPER SIZE IT!
No wonder so many people are now obese!

SpitFire, the restauarnt business is completely out of whack...

portions served are way too big for most people to fully eat and enjoy (thank goodness for doggie-bags - there's another weird phrase: is a doggie going to get these leftovers? Not likely!)...and the desserts are humongous and way out of line for anyone trying to watch their weight....

Some restaurants are slowly getting the hint and cutting down on their portions, and even serving "mini-desserts, but there's still a long way to go....

LOL, Whacky!

No, shelly, I haven't been to the Cheesecake Factory, either!
I've used WIC services before but they only let you buy certain foods (healthy) with the check. I think that's how food stamps should be, too!

Cheesecake? Just falling into your mouth? Have you got that address...please??? LOL!

Wow!
You said a mouthful!

LOL, I have never been to the Cheesecake Factory, believe it or not

does it look like a factory on the inside???    I mean, in Columbus we had a Spagetti Warehouse restaurant.  It was a restaurant inside what use to be an actual warehouse.  So, yea, its name did fit.

I'm not obese or even heavy, but I've been on food stamps and it's hard to resist free food!  Just saying.  LOL

Agreed, Sam. I feel that way about the welfare recipient who is
obese AND wearing designer clothes. I don't particularly have anything against heavy people in general.

Hey, Guy,
Did you (or anyone else reading this) ever notice that KFC commercial where the music in the back round is SWEET HOME ALABAMA?

I think I heard that, too, FSI.

I think the poor do not know how to shop and thus they purchase foods with empty calories, then they wear the fat! UGH!!! I know the waitress you are talking about! I doubt there is any dessert for she has consumed it all! lol Fat people just don't move their body I have observed! Their houses are probably filthy, too! sam

Restaraunt names have NO relevance. Red Lobsters aren't really embarrassed.
Kentucky fried chicken isn't really fried, or probably even but RARELY, from Kentucky! Bet the Colonel wasn't even a Corporal, now that I think about it! He certainly wasn't PRIVATE, that's for sure, and he probably hailed from Western, North Dakota! Nowadays, you can't hardly believe ANYBODY!

You have asked two questions that I myself have noticed with regard to the obese being on food stamps and the obese waitress...With regard to Cracker Barrel I heard a few years back that they were considering a name change because of the racial element.

Thanks for the tips, Kabu!

Once we got right into this diet...we can't even face chips or donuts

or anything gooey so it is amazing how one can set to and change.

Not everyone has time to cook or is much good at it but there is so much smart eating one can still do...weight watchers frozen meals......nutritious and non fattening....vegetables, salads, fish and Turkey meats, grilled not fried and fruit. Instead of rubbish eat fruit...works for us.

Right, Katray!

And now I want some chips.

Medications can cause weight problems, as do certain health issues; mental illness or conditions, etc. Yes it is annoying when a waitress tries to "sell" the menu, lol. um, I can read, if I want something else, you'll be the first to know.. Good post, Spitfire!

People eat for so many reason, and often not for good nourishment.  Unhappiness, depression, anxiety, money worries, etc. can make a person turn to food--large amounts of it, unhealthy fattening gooey stuff.  Hand me that bag of potato chips please.
