Hmmm, very intriguing! This would make a great opening scene of a screenplay! And I'm a HUGE fan of "The Godfather" so I love the title!

Touche if that's how it is spelled Bob, not in the Shorter English and you know I cannot spell.

can't refuse
As a matter of fact, there IS an ending I can share.  He was let in to a fairly plain apartment, and the man turned up the stereo so they were sure they weren't overheard. The business opportunities were two: an indoor racquetball court and the purchase of a sailboat stocked with high-end booze for Caribbean charters.  Harvey thanked him politely as he could but walked away.  He's currently starving as a real estate agent.

I turned mine down so to speak, but still the door is open, I like your work in this one and it is always good to read you.

the title did ring a bell, and after a couple of reads I was sure I heard

the front doorbell ringing, at least, so to speak....

based on a true story, too, Bob? (Yikes, I'd hate to miss a block party)......

Re:no apology
Not being a movie fan, of course you'd miss the allusion in the title. It's from The Godfather when Michael explains how his father, the Don, does business.  Now for my confession - I had to look up "greengage" ...So who's the dummy?

Well it sounds good Bob but a bit of an effort for a bunch of flowers. Of course being a dope I don't understand it. I expect I would be at the back of your class. I'll be interested to see what others say and come back with my apology.
