A little mind boggling, but true love endures.

Re: very touching and bittersweet, both, Bob....
Thank you.  It deals with a kind of dilemma that's best avoided.  As the saying goes these days, "Don't go there."  (not at least unless you know the neighborhood pretty well.)

This poem really hits home to me, I spent the last 20 years building vehicles for the disabled and I know how close to the line we all walk. I have as well seen what something so life altering can do to families and love. My heart is strengthened by the love in your home. May God be with you and bless you...Utah Jay

Sadly Bob I have known also pretty little girls who were betrayed when illness befell them.

Whilst one would not wish it on oneself I think I would have felt too sorry for them and would have protected them even if I could not still love them mentally. Well I hope that is what I would have done. I admire you for proving yourself to be honorable.

Talk about your bittersweet, and changed definitions.
This one is touching.

Re:another kind of love poem
Sure, but the question "Would you marry me again"?  doesn't get a glib reply when it involves saying yes to someone who (how can you know it at the time?) will become severely handicapped for most of your married life.
Do you still love her?  Do you even stay married?  For us, the answer is still yes, but not for a lot of other couples I've known.
