nursing school we learned all the hands on ways before we touched the
time saving supposedly safer machines and pumps etc. That way we knew what we were doing and why and the dangers on and on....
I feel so strongly it is the same for school. Learn to read and write first....and play sports and gym and climbing anything but texting and stuff. How sad.
Of course there are kids that suffer ADD etc but I agree it is easier to controlwith medication than disipline or finding out the real problems a child may have...and why they behave like they do. Teachers used to be cruel, sometimes and that was bad but sometimes a quick smack and it is all over and back to normal.

It is the insanity of our times...
part of the dumbing-down... not to teach the skills first, then bring in the devices to save time while further skills are taught.
And keyboarding? What kid needs to be taught that??! That is one thing they for sure learn at home or at a friend's house, so they can play those games...

things are changing, and some changes do not seem to be very positive
But if we have a good goal and good perspective we can make the changes work for us not against us.

I'm with you Pat-B. Already their big brothers and sisters have a problem doing sums in their heads, without an calculator. Now these kids won't be able to write? SO tell me, what happens when there's no electricity to power computers, or batteries charged (i.e. happened in Haiti after the quake)? We'll revert back to verbal story telling? Then again, they won't have to remember anything either...computers do that for them. That's not even factoring in losing the romance of sitting scribbling thoughts during recess....
