Bob, summer is still alive and well here in the Detroit-Windsor area
where it was 86F and very humid yet again today...with my breathing condition, I am looking forward to a hopefully early fall.....
(I know, the stores rush the seasons like crazy. I'm surprised some of them dont already have their Christmas decorations out!)..

Re: August is the time for jungle heat
Really? I did't know about the fireflies, but jungle heat? I've heard about the
'dog days" of August and know it can get hot, but the natural changes mentioned in the poem ARE peculiar to August (I didn't mention the heavy morning dews). About the corn, now that sounds nice. The new poetry blogger, Jay, says corn is HIS calendar, too. Come to think of it, when I was a kid and would spend a few weeks on a farm some summers, it must have been in June because the cornfield was fun to go hide in, but was never harvested while I was there. But there HAS been good corn in the supermarket bins this past month. Where's THAT coming from?(Oh, and PS, thanks for the chatty and enlightening visit!)

August is the time for jungle heat
and the lightning bugs are over for the year. We just walk out back and watch the corn ripen. Cross our fingers it doesn't hail before harvest.

Pouring with rain here in the East of England and Autumn's fingers are firmly placed on August's shoulder I think

Well it is quite chilly here this morning Bob, perhaps this is a mini Winter and the sun will come back in the Autumn, Rumple Stiltskins. I don't remember if it's spelled correctly but you don't get the baby. Just a precaution.

yes, it is still summer, for a bit longer anyway. Retailers must rush the seasons, as if they don't pass fast enough. I have seen halloween candy on sale at the supermarket, seems it would be old two months from now.

I live in the suburbs of the suburbs, and out here they have space, and in that space they plant corn and I watch it grow as my summer calender. When it gets this tall i get depressed. Great poem, thank you.Utah Jay
