I agree with that. There are certain uniforms of gangs. A turkey does not change into a duck by behavior, it must also appear as one.  I am not immune, I drive a car that is everything but environment appropriate. If I were stopped and could not convince the police I was not what they were looking for and they arrested me, I would sue and hope to win. It is no better for whites in so many cases, the understanding of that is not there.

I think these white people who agree to racial profiling would be
highly upset if that included them.

As you had said, white people are not innocent...let's just stop and check EVERYONE.  Then we could all plan to show up at the airport about a week before our flight leaves...we could see how well that would go over.

Only those who feel they are immune to it agree to racial profiling. If they were the ones to be stopped and profiled at every opportunity, I guarantee they would feel that their rights are being violated.

Re: tch
justi, that sounds like "behavior profiling" which is what we have now.  Walking and quacking are behaviors.  But the phrase you refer to states "If it looks like a duck...walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, then it is a duck."  Big difference.  Thanks for the visit!

I believe profiling should be a thing without race concerns. Anybody acting strangly should be stopped before they behave strange and the result is far worse than someone getting their stupid feelings hurt. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck it probably is a duck. So what if it hurts the feelings of an innocent? I get my feelings hurt often, I am a big girl I will out grow it. I want a better world for all. I am out there working in it... I know blacks, whites and hispaniacs are all involved in the dirt of life. Do you understand most of them would like to be profiled, stopped and helped? There are those mean to the core who profiteer by using the sisters, daughters and mothers of all races, but most are innocents who have been induced and now are being hidden by those who don't want them found out. No most don't believe profiling has a good side, it is because nobody wants to stir in anything stinking, but leave sleeping dogs lie. Wrong choices. There will be no peace and equality until all people are held to the same codes and laws. As for as being blind as yellowrose indicated, good thought, but I have never seen any group of people denigrate their women more than the music of Black Rap. I have experienced working with black, white and hispanic crack whores who need help, want help and are there for a million reasons but the point is they are there and that is when there is no racism when they all come to drink from the same pool of help things will change. Fairness and justice from this day on is what is needed. We can't look back and hand out justice everybody in the world has been done wrong at some point. A racist is someone who rather let someone rot in a crack house than to hurt their feelings and falsly arrest them. God help such stupidity.

Both your post and Talion's comment make perfect sense, but Yellowrose's comment tells it like it really is. We humans have a long way to go.

On the contrary, the existence of racism isn't denied in the white community. Most will admit it exists. The problem arises when they're asked to identify the racists. Once they go beyond David Duke, Klansmen, Neo-Nazi's, skinheads, (and due to recent events, the Black Panthers) etc., things get a little murky. By admitting "normal" white people can be racist, it's as if they fear they're stating something that will incriminate them. Their only recourse is to "plead the fifth" so to speak and disbelieve and/or disprove any charge or racism except from the most obvious extremists.

Anytime a person prefaces a statement with "I'm not a racist, but..." you can almost always bet your bottom dollar what comes next will be a contradiction. Some don't have a clue their statements don't add up simply for lack of thoroughly thinking it through. Others know exactly what they're doing, using the quantifier as a flimsy politically correct shield from the backlash to follow.

Even worse is the "I'm not a racist because..." followed by a list of reasons such as who he/she voted for in past elections, who some of their "best friends" supposedly are, their favorite actor/entertainer/athlete, etc. This is worse not because the lists usually are meaningless and neither prove or disprove their racial biases, but because it reveals their incorrect assumptions about my racial biases. Surely I hold hostility, animosity, or outright hatred for all white people and either I'm too blinded by the pain of my negative experiences (everyone knows growing up black automatically means a life of poverty, crime, and violence) or too stupid to differentiate between "friend" or "foe."

I agree Blogit is vital because it exposes us to different voices and differing points of view, but there's a downside to it too. Yes, someone may learn a thing or two from you or me or others, but if our voices are the only ones they hear, we run the risk of somehow becoming the "official spokespersons" for whatever groups we represent. Our personal views and opinions could easily become the default views and opinions for our entire group.

People should get out in the real world, meet different people and develop friendships. It's easy to say those damn blacks and Hispanics are destroying the cities with their drugs and gangs when you don't know any blacks or Hispanics. It's easy to say those damn Republicans hate minorities when you've never had a decent conversation with one. Blogs and the Internet aren't good enough. The meetings of the minds have to occur face-to-face.

Very well stated, Dsm!
Hypocrisy is rampant over an issue so complex and confusing; guess that's to be expected to a certain point, but often it is blatantly obvious that skin color and/or culture are the dominating reasons for discrimination.

What would the world be like if everyone was blind? Would we discriminate based on how someone sounds? We humans have a long way to go.

If we just  arrested drug dealers of ANY color and executed them, there would be no racism in that, just common sense.

I completely agree with the thought in your post. It would be useful if you
teased out the thought a little more. Else it also comes across as emotional persuasion.

Racial profiling is not the answer, I feel. I would add more, but I feel that you have covered what the exact problem is.
