Teach
A good post with good tips but I'll try and steer clear of any situations that are emotionally upsetting and keep my opinions to myself.

Complex thinking and looking into the facts is more difficult, but more productive . If the man had problems anyway, he could have gone over the edge if he had racial treatment. He could have made a false accusation or he could have been right. You never really know until you are there and find out what actually happened. Kudos to you to want to be objective about different groups of people
.

Sunny, yes exactly right. I think the law states that your civil liberties extend to the end of your fisted arm, and mine begin at my nose.

The thing about Blogit and rights becomes very complicated
when you think of things like freedom of speech and do we have the right to co-exist here without feeling threatened?
Some have felt they have a right to freedom of speech even when that includes defaming and/or death threats to others (some of those "others" residing here). So it seems like if you allow one their rights, then you are violating the rights of another.
I try to think of it in a way like real life logic... what would the law do?
If I was a green monkey and was involved in a conversation in which someone said they intend to take it upon themselves to eliminate all green monkeys, I would believe that would be grounds to get the law involved as posing a threat to my well being.
Even if the person was not talking to me personally, they know I am right here within hearing distance and know I am a green monkey, and who's to say the person didn't want me to hear it in the first place?
The problem is that people here don't understand that they can't have it both ways. If one person is allowed to say whatever they want and act anyway they want against a whole group of people (or even an individual in a personal attack), then they should be prepared to not take any action if someone says and acts anyway they want against whatever group they might be a member of.
But it doesn't work that way. People say what they want against others while still believing that they should be protected against the same crap they spew if it is directed towards them.

This is definitely rational thinking well-expressed...
add to that "Personalizing", "Over-generalizing", "Labeling" and you got the whole gamut of irrational thinking / behavior that unfortunately is so prevalent in our society.
