I am a firm believer in diversity and have associations with all colors! Those who are leaving this segment of the population out are selling themselves short! Great minds abound in all races and we can learn more from interaction that we can from disassociation! sam

This is away over my head, I guess. I still haven't figured out why people would think that the colour of one's skin has anything to do with anything. Whatever nationality or colour a person is, I would say what really counts is the attitude; we get intelligent, criminal and just plain stupid in each of the groups, don't we? What's more, each of us can be any, or all, of the above at any given time. Maybe if our talking (or teaching) that all humans are created equal was done to
ALL of the very young, in every country, there would be a chance that racism be eventually wiped out.

dsm - This race card..I have been born into it, seen its disadvantages and lived through it and I can tell you that each time we think we have made a headway at some point, things backslide and it is mostly because each race will deem their own superior...including me. I think my race is terribly intelligent and probably that remark will set me back somewhat. All I can say is that we can co-habit amicably and respect each other's differences. With all the cultural differences now coming to the fore there is more mutual understanding. With all the inter-marriages, religion which is a major issue is slowly understandable for another's point of view. To make a change I think we need to be a change first and that too taking into consideration the feelings of individuals especially in a multi-racial unit like Blogit. People watch, people come to conclusions, people read - the world is aware. We cannot be the ones to claim superiority in any of these facets imho dsm. The world is indeed changing and people speak their minds.

You are doing a great job.

Excellent work, Dsm!
Your concern and intelligence brim over..I have learned many things about racism and the perils of jumping in too soon into debates about it. Case in point - the Shirley Sherrod story; which was broadcast as definitive proof of reverse racism in higher levels of government. A conservative blogger aired a short segment of a speech she gave and created a firestorm that cost her her job. Then it finally came out that she was actually voicing regrets over racism she had felt years ago. Because her father was murdered by a white man. But she realized eventually the wrongness of her mindset and was sincere in her efforts to assist the farming community, no matter color of skin. As she stated, black or white or any other shade, they all had a common adversary: poverty, that she desired to give her service to fighting.
And the ACORN story, more details on that are being revealed. Looks like it wasn't the way it was initially portrayed, which caused an organization that helped thousands and thousands of low paid workers to be de-funded and in effect, closed down. Anyone can google it and see for themselves.
So imo, it's best to wait and let the picture of whatever news or issue about race or really anything to fully emerge before joining the fray.
This is why I'm withholding judgement over the Justice Department story until all the facts are out. I do think there needs to be an open and non-partisan investigation.

I read your first part yesterday and decided to not comment at that time since you were going to be adding to it. You have done a very fine job of setting forth things we should all be considering and definitely sharpening our continuing awareness.

well thank you for clearing up my misinterpretation
and perhaps my extremely
rational thinking was slightly coloured by the fact that I was airing an old chest nut of mine...the fact that Australians
know that they live in the
lucky country and we are very competitive and
we know that we beat the rest of the world
(per population numbers) at almost every sport in the world....see I am laughing at myself too.

You are giving yourself a good round of applaudes and back slappings. Hope they hold up for you.
Will you also google the court discourse on the trial where the man (whistle blower) resigned because Eric Holder said there would be no suits going ahead where the Black Panthers were being sued by whites... You have carefully chosen material to show a favor to your thinking. It is not the whole truth.
Also to Kabu's comment: I agree totally with her idea of your over use of academia is such a poor one and a racist type of thing. Are you aware that teachers for over sixty years have fallen into the lower 10% of the grade ratings in colleges and universities... Check it out. We have a daughter and a son in law who are teachers, the father of the son-in law is a professor at a University. Does that add something that the other children do not have, not that we can tell. I went to college when it was difficult to get through and made excellent grades. It makes me not one whit better or ever smarter than the next person. What makes me or any other person better than they may be is the ability to be just, fair, honest and in my opinion a strong faith in God. It is easy to see who has this and who does not but having it does not friends many make.

You are so right in that we have problems talking about our racial history. The wounds are still very fresh from the 1960s. I do believe that in good time though that once our society reaches a point where it is far removed from that time period the dialouge that needs to occur will occur.

Re: An unemotional thought from a citizen of the world in answer to you
Kabu, thank you. Let me clear that up. "We the leading thinkers of the world" are blogiteers! You know, the intelligentsia? The artists, poets, writers of the world? Us. TY!
Your comment is welcomed. I wonder whar else is unclear here in this post?

An unemotional thought from a citizen of the world in answer to you
"And, it is hard to talk about it. We, the world's leading thinkers, avoid it; "
Your own words.
It could be argued in academic circles that this is in itself a racist remark.....the USA versus the rest of the world? "The World's leading thinkers.........please can you give us, who come from other parts of the world, your proof positive for these remarks, remarks that could be called offensive to other citizens from other countries and continents, regardless of color or creed.
Can you state that the USA..gave birth to someone of the statue of Nelson Mandela.....or Golda Meir... for instance ....Oh yes of course....Martin Luther King!
