That, to some extent, is the sad truth! Instead of living in denial, it's better to at least attempt to correct oneself.

liberal racism
Liberal racism is something they call you when you are right, when you get to close to the truth, or when they need a diversion...Utah Jay

Labeling based on political beliefs is a form of discrimination..
I know progressives who are bitterly aggressive, mean spirited and conservatives who are genuinely good people, open minded and hearted, progressives who are below average intelligence and those who are genius level - same for Tea Party members. I have been pooh-poohed by a liberal or two because I cannot, will not condone abortion except in cases where the mother's life or mental health is in real danger, yet to other appearances I am seen as a lib or prog or whatever the jargon may be.
As far as racism, if you've ever been to a KKK rally or to certain militia gatherings, then you know racism is alive and current in this country, in subtle and destructive ways too..and dangerous. Not every militia member is racist, but I dare say all KKK members are racist...
Anyway, the railings against Obama are a mixed variety; some are based on racism, more I think on his party, policies, etc. And the latter is what should make for democracy and a rational society - debate of the issues via passionate yet respectful discourse. Racism is obviously irrational, but it does exist on all levels, directions, etc. and needs to be called out when encountered. My perspective, hoping it doesn't offend.

It's the root cause behind the use of that term...
that needs to be detected, understood & corrected, not an easy task in itself. To make matters worse, it is very individual, made even worse by stereotyping. Hopefully, we as a people, will progress as a society as these kinds of misconceptions / misinterpretations get corrected through open & civil dialogue.
