Like Rumor, I like reading Patterson thrillers..
My all-time favorite author though, is Patrick McManus! He would be a perfect choice for you to read, in dribs & drabs, too. Each chapter is an entire stand alone story. Read one chapter, ANY CHAPTER, of any of his books, and you will become a lifelong fan, and I am not misusing the word as it is based on the term, "fanatic."
I suspect that you will have a very difficult time stopping your reading at a single chapter though, I know that once begun, I read his books clear through to the end, he really is that good! I think that I began my McManus odyssey with "Never sniff a gift fish!"
Recovery time is usually only about a day or so, and then I'm off to the races, reading ANOTHER! (You'll understand the "recovery time" part, only if you are curious enough to look him up, and order, or check out one of his books at the library) You really owe it to yourself to do this, and you will greatfully thank me, for steering you his way, I know this, for a fact.

Yes... Reading others work often solves my writing block in that many of
the comments I post after reading others, turns out to be good enough for an interesting blog in itself, and so I use it for such.  ......

I find it helps to read as a stimulus to my own writing, and really
does help prevent writer's block...I try to read daily if I can as it got completely away from me for a number of years...(been on a James Patterson roll lately, although that is changing...:)
