I love a road trip! It is a marathon, indeed! Wonderful imagery, too! sam

Re: Road trips. Never go without CDs or books on tape.
I use to be a big believer in a big bottle of Coke and a bag of potato chips. The intended effect, I thought, was pretty clever:sweet Cola made me want salty chips, which made me want sweet Cola, etc. - it kept me busy eating and drinking and wiping my greasy fingers on my socks and listening to the racket of the chips and of the bag they came in.  Besides, it was a rationalization for pigging out.  Since then, I've discovered that a 20-minute lie-down on the grass at a rest stop is way better.  Go figure.

Road trips. Never go without CDs or books on tape.
Bottled water and snacks, too, but coffee can lead to trouble between rest areas.

I think I would fall asleep[ Bob. Around some of these country roads one has to have eyes on stalks and this time of the year to get stuck behind a tractor and a load of hay demands a deal of patience especially if the cars behind are willing one to take a chance.
