Yes, they were silly but we all dutifully got under desks or tables in the lunch room or in the hallways with our arms over our heads. Part of growing up in the late 50s early 60s.

by the time you were in school, I think Americans had figured out if a bomb hit, there would be very little we could do to save ourselves.

It would have been a fruitless practice, indeed! I remember the folks building the shelters in their basement for years it seemed, and all for naught! sam

I remember those drills. They were so silly, but I took them seriously. At least we thought we were being saved from the blast. LOL

My maternal grandmother was from Virginia. No one on her side could tell she had an accent, but Dad could...I am so thankful that we never had to do nuclear drills in school.
