I can't say that I am surprised that he was such a smoker. My paternal grandmother used to say, "If the world had 100 people in it, 95 of them smoked."

Although there are many who smoke today, I think it was far more common in the 50's b/c we knew less about the long-term effects.  Plus, smoking was in the movies all the time.  It was the IN thing to do.

I'm certain that contributed to his coronary occlusion which was his cause of death.  I hope your son improves.

I suppose that contributed to his coronary occlusion.   My oldest son is a long-time smoker.  He has very bad circulation in his legs and I hate to think what his lungs look like.  Of course I worry about him.  What mother wouldn't.
