sunburn
Wonderful subject vividly treated! - catches the inside and outside consequences! (Add some scratchy sand and sweat, and you have a lively image of us kids coming back from Orchard Beach on the crosstown bus way back when. I still remember spooning vaseline onto the glowing brow of my friend Kelly, a (formerly) fair-skinned Irishman.

To my understanding this was a soliloquy, directed inwards. And hence, brilliant!

You have expressed the punishment of sunburn so well :-) and these verses could be applied to so many other instances where we act foolishly without caring we could be "burned" at the end. Great poem Neil... Bravo! but if its literal and you are truly sunburned ...ouch! try ice and a cream containing aloe vera ... :-( Hope you feel better soon and have a wonderful tan to show for your daring :-) xoxoxo
