I agree with you about not realizing as a child your upbringing is not normal. But then, is there such a thing as normal?

Happy birthday to your grandson...Experiences like this are tough, but at least you get to see your daughter respond better to them.

I understand how you feel about being manipulated. When I was growing up my dear (late) mother used a lot of guilt trips on us kids and I never got her "hints" about cleaning ... It wasn't until I was an adult staying at her house that I realized how I grew up as a child and how it wasn't normal. My mother had a bad childhood I think and it seems to pass on to the next generation.
