Re: loved the poem, but.........damaged goods a person? a human being
I feel the same as your friend, hence the poem.

I believe a discerning eye can find greatness in damaged goods! Wonderful imagery, too! sam

loved the poem, but.........damaged goods a person? a human being

is never damaged goods! I had a discussion recently with a friend of mine who felt like she was damaged goods because her husband (that her parents arranged for her) abused her and used her, and than she divorced him. I would also feel like damaged goods after that kind of experience. But we are creatures of god, never damaged only set back.

ok thats enough of that,

still a great poem, with food for thought

There a lot of people who the system uses and throws away when their work is no longer valued. This makes me think a bit of Death of a Salesman.

Re: Damaged
I think ash was referring to antique persons, but I wrote the poem more about discarded people.  Antiques get better treatment.

They're usually more useful than people think, but they never learn how to capitalize on them or bring them out.

Re: Re: Re: damaged
Speaking of rainy day poems, my all-time favorite is Housman's "Terence, This Is Stupid Stuff".

Re: damaged

"The Ruined Maid" was by Thomas Hardy, but I am honored in either company.

Thanks,

Grimly good!  I'm keeping it for a rainy day - right alongside my ae housman favorites.  Ever read his poem "The Ruined Maid" (or something like that)?  Same vein.  Very witty.
